United
last night angrily denied suggestions there is a rift at Tannadice between
their Scots and the foreigners they have brought in to try to turn their
fortunes around. With numerous South Americans recruited either
on short-term deals or on a trial basis in the last few weeks, the Tangerines
ran out of space in which to accommodate all their players when they
are at the ground. That has led to them having to establish two separate
dressing rooms, simply to allow everyone room to change in and out of
their kit. However contrary to reports elsewhere, the two are both mixed
and not split on ethnic lines.
Said a club spokesman,
"Every effort is made to ensure the players mingle for their own good,
as well as the good of the team. "It is nonsense to suggest that all
the foreigners change in one dressing room while all the Scots get ready
in another for it simply does not happen." That point was backed up
by club skipper Jason de Vos, "Of course, language is a problem but
we all muck in together and try to do everything we can to make the
new guys welcome. "That is part of my job as the captain here and one
I take seriously. "As professional footballers, we can’t all go out
and get drunk but we do plan to socialise with a game of Laser-quest
lined up for next week."
