There's
never a dull moment when Charlie Miller is around and the former Rangers
star made a stormy return to Scottish football with United. The midfielder
was handed a quick-fire debut after his move from Watford and made an
immediate impact. In a first-half flashpoint. Miller steamed in with a
hard but fair tackle on Well's Martyn Comgan. The incident sparked chaos
as Miller became embroiled in a spat with Stephen McMillan that saw both
booked.
Miller
was in the thick of the action throughout and said: "It's just great to
be back playing again on a Saturday as I had a long time when I wasn't
getting a game. "I've not played a first-team game since January and hopefully
I can now stay fit and play as many matches as possible." The United debut
boy conceded it was a rash tackle on Corrigan but insisted: "It was a
bit silly - but I did play the ball and it wasn't a foul." United's Jim
Lauchlan was sent off later in the stormy first half and Well took advantage,
building a two- goal lead through a Ged Brannan penalty on the stroke
of half time and a second-half strike by Stuart EUiott. Motherwell seemed
to be coasting but Miller helped give United a life- line when he created
a debut goal for Argentinian recruit Alberto Naveda.
And Charlie
almost completed a remarkable comeback when he was apparently fouled by
Benito Kemble in the box late in the game. His appeals for a penalty were
waved away by blunder ref Alan Freeland. ©Sporting
