Jim McLean
has been charged by Tayside Police after an alleged assault on
a BBC reporter last weekend. The former Dundee Utd chairman,
who resigned on Saturday after the alleged incident, will also
be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in Dundee.
Superintendent Ron Wilkie said: "Following an investigation into
an alleged incident at Tannadice Park on October 14, Tayside Police
can confirm a man has been charged and report submitted to the
procurator fiscal at Dundee.
"As this
is an ongoing inquiry, no further comment can be made." McLean,
63, is alleged to have assaulted BBC Scotland reporter John Barnes
after a 4-0 defeat by Hearts. Barnes needed medical attention
to a lip injury. The club tonight declined to comment on the decision.
But McLean won't face a Scottish Premier League inquiry for the
moment - although it said it was treating the incident "with the
utmost seriousness". ©Supergoals.com
