The Jim
McLean affair will be discussed today for the first time by the
SFA. But no decisions are expected as the general purposes
commmitee meets in Glasgow. SFA official Andy Mitchell said yesterday,
"This is the first stage, but the committee will be brought up
to date on the situation." The committee will be advised of an
incident involving Dundee United chairman McLean and BBC television
reporter John Barnes .
Since then,
McLean has resigned from the Tannadice club and has said his shares
are for sale. It is likely the committee will write to McLean,
asking him either to appear at a future meeting or to write to
them with his views. After that, they will be able to decide on
any punishment which they may wish to impose. As McLean is now
out of football, the committee’s options could be curtailed. It
may be, however, that, like the Scottish Premier League, they
may decide to take no action meantime. ©The
