Latest News from Tannadice.

United will today welcome Danish front man Denni Conteh back to Tannadice for a second trial. Conteh (25) was with the club briefly earlier this season. Now boss Alex Smith is taking another look at the player who is on the books of French aces Racing Strasbourg as he hunts for a strike partner for Argentinian Beto Naveda. Smith said, "The first time the lad was across we had only the briefest of chances to make a judgement on him and there was no way we could, on the evidence of a closed doors game on a wet night at Brechin, make our minds up.

"But he is quick, has a good pedigree and I saw something in him that night which I think makes it worthwhile having him back." Conteh played alongside Hibs striker David Zitelli at Strasbourg and scored for the French side when they sent Liverpool tumbling out of the UEFA Cup in 1997 on a 3-2 aggregate. He was also involved in their 4-2 defeat of Rangers in the previous round. In addition to making 44 appearances in the French first division, he has played for Lyngby and Hvidovre.

Meanwhile, Smith is not ruling out making another attempt to land the mystery attacker he tried, but failed, to sign in the build-up to Saturday’s morale-boosting 3-2 home win over Dunfermline, the bottom-of-the-table Tangerines’ first in the league this season. "We didn’t get too far with that one but I’m not saying it’s dead," he commented. "The problem was that time ran out on us because I didn’t want to be making a really late signing." ©The Courier
