United will today welcome Danish front man Denni Conteh back to Tannadice for a second trial. Conteh (25) was with the club briefly earlier this season. Now boss Alex Smith is taking another look at the player who is on the books of French aces Racing Strasbourg as he hunts for a strike partner for Argentinian Beto Naveda. Smith said, "The first time the lad was across we had only the briefest of chances to make a judgement on him and there was no way we could, on the evidence of a closed doors game on a wet night at Brechin, make our minds up. Charlie Miller was once hit on the head by a coin thrown by a Dundee United supporter at Tannadice. It was the happiest day of his career. Rangers were one victory away from clinching a ninth consecutive league championship when they travelled to Tayside on May 7, 1997. Last Match - SPL - Dundee Utd 3 Dunfermline 2
Eleven months we had waited for this euphoric moment. A win at last for United, our first on home soil since Winter was last in the air and a first of any kind in the SPL since Hearts were felled back in April. For 45 minutes yesterday, the Terrors produced the kind of performance - full of verve, heart and hustle - which they will need if they are to avoid a winter of discontent and a berth in the First Division next term.
